The European Blockchain Center had the honour of hosting visiting scholar Paulo Rupino da Cunha in August 2023.
Paulo is an Associate Professor of Information Systems with Habilitation and the former head of the IS Group at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra, Portugal. His research focuses on Blockchain, cloud, service systems, and business models.
During the International Blockchain School in August 2023, Paulo delivered a presentation on the emerging reality of Central Bank Digital Currencies.
He discussed how this digital form of fiat money is evolving, highlighting differences from cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. He also presented on the advantages, challenges, pilot projects, and preliminary experiments related to cross-border interoperability for international payments and transfers.
